(Strong's #655 — Verb — apostugeo — ap-os-toog-eh'-o )

denotes "to shudder" (apo, "from," here used intensively, stugeo, "to hate") hence, "to abhor," "scriptRef" ref="ro+12:9">Romans 12:9 .

"subtitle bold">2: βδελύσσομαι

(Strong's #948 — Verb — bdelusso — bdel-oos'-so )

"to render foul" (from bdeo, "to stink"), "to cause to be abhorred" (in the Sept. in "scriptRef" ref="ex+5:21">Exodus 5:21; "scriptRef" ref="le+11:43">Leviticus 11:43; "scriptRef" ref="le+20:25">20:25 , etc.), is used in the Middle Voice, signifying "to turn oneself away from" (as if from a stench); hence, "to detest," "scriptRef" ref="ro+2:22">Romans 2:22 . In "scriptRef" ref="re+21:8">Revelation 21:8 it denotes "to be abominable." See ABOMINABLE.
